Dominica lends itself more to living history than museums full of static displays, but it has a fascinating collection of artefacts at its museum in the capital Roseau. Overlooking the old market, the displays take  visitors on an absorbing journey through Dominica’s cultural and social history.

The Museum, located above the Tourist Information office on the Bay Front, t 448 8923, gives an excellent overview of the development and influences which have forged modern day Dominica; open till noon on Saturdays and Sundays if a cruise ship is docked.
