Dominica for romance...

Dominica isn’t the most obvious choice for couples wanting a romantic break in the Caribbean, but the so-called “Nature Isle” holds more appeal than you might think for those wanting to dive off the beaten tourist track and immerse themselves in the local culture. Dominica’s rustic charm; its undeveloped appeal and emphasis on natural beauty adds a special ingredient to stays on the island. This is where visitors can shake off 21st Century commercialism that has gripped some of its Caribbean neighbours and exchange it for a simpler way of life. They can get close to nature on treks through the jungle, across the slopes of dormant volcanoes, to sulphur springs, a boiling lake and numerous waterfalls. Dominica is full of memorable experiences, from whale and dolphin-watching trips to visits to ancient Carib tribes. Couples can relax in small hotels and dine in locally-run restaurants full of local flavour that is distinctly Dominican.

Weddings in Dominica

There are some truly spectacular sites to enhance any wedding ceremony, and honeymoon packages are available at several of the hotels. Church nuptials are possible but many people opt for a more unusual outdoor setting like the waterfalls, botanical gardens, Fort Shirley or the Kalinago Barana Aute building in the Carib Territory.

In order to ensure that everything is just as you would wish it to be and runs smoothly, you should include your wedding plans at the same time as you plan your holiday. If you are booking via a tour operator or travel organiser, discuss your requirements with them before booking, and if you are making your own arrangements, again, make sure that you contact your hotel or a local ground-handler who provides wedding services such as KHATTS, who will be able to make all of your wedding arrrangements for you.

Legal requirements for getting married in Dominica:

At least one member of the party must be in the country for two days prior to the ceremony, and remember to carry all the requisite documents like birth certificates and passports etc. A Special Marriage Licence Form G must be acquired from the Ministry of Community Development and Gender Affairs at Government Headquarters on Hillsborough Street in Roseau, t 448 2401, then a payment of EC$300 made on submission. Registrar and legal fees will also be payable.
