Grenada & Carriacou / Special Interests / Archaeology

By Sara Macefield

Arawaks are believed to have been the first Amerindians to settle on Grenada and a number of archaeological sites have unearthed clues about their communities and settlements on Grenada and Carriacou. The most prominent site is at Duquesne Bay on Grenada where carvings that depict faces and other images from the past can be seen on large boulders.

DuCane Bay Petroglyphs, Victoria - Large Carib Indian rock carvings on a dark sand beach in Duquesne, on the way to Victoria. There are also petroglyphs at Mt Rich in St Patrick’s.
