Jamaica / Special Interests / Cruise Ship

By Sara Macefield

Jamaica tends to attract mass-market larger ships and has also been an embarkation and disembarkation point for some cruises, helped by its network of regular flights to the US and Europe. The main ports have traditionally been the north coast tourist resort of Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, but this year has seen the opening of the port of Falmouth, also on the north coast. The Georgian town has been upgraded with new port facilities designed to accommodate the world’s two largest cruise ships (holding around 6,000 passengers) owned by Royal Caribbean International.

Other large ships still tend to dock at the original ports, and these are owned by lines including Carnival Cruise Lines, MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line. Some smaller vessels call at the picturesque town of Port Antonia on the north-east coast.
