Nevis / Special Interests / Carnivals & Festivals
NEVIS may be one of the smaller, sleepier islands in the Caribbean, but the locals still know how to throw a good party for their annual carnival celebrations. In addition, there are events that mark the island’s heritage and culture.
Carnival - The most carnival-like celebration in Nevis is Culturama, which is held in July and culminates during the first weekend in August. Among other activities this involves Kaiso or calypso competitions, drama presentations, beauty pageants, street parades and general jump-ups (a West Indian street party). These events are always fun to attend and there is a delightful local quality which makes it very accessible.

Fruit Festival - Held amid the Carnival festivities at the start of July, there are displays of local fruit, preserves and drink with produce for sale, culinary demonstrations and a watermelon eating competition.
