There is just one 18-hole golf course on Nevis, albeit a very challenging championship-quality layout that will test the mettle of golfers of all ability levels. The island also has a fun pitch and putt course for those who don’t want to take it so seriously.

Four Seasons Resort - Set on the west coast of Nevis, just north of Charlestown, this 18-hole course was Robert Trent Jones Junior’s first design in the Caribbean. It opened in 1991 and offers glorious views across to neighbouring St Kitts. A demanding par 71 measuring 6766 yards with fairways lined by palm trees, the course meanders around the resort then climbs up the slopes of the island’s volcano through rainforest before sweeping back down to the coast, the 18th hole finishing close to the beach with an adjacent bar offering welcoming cool beers. Resort guests enjoy preferential green fees. The clubhouse has a pro shop with rental clubs. There is a driving range and practice putting green and instruction is available. Two complimentary weekly clinics are offered to resort guests and, for a fee, there is a golfer’s conditioning programme.

Cat Ghaut Chip’n Putt, Newcastle - A nine-hole, par 3 pitch and putt course offering a more relaxed and less challenging experience.

Neighbouring St Kitts has an excellent golf course, in the form of the Royal St Kitts Golf Club. Nearly 6900 yards long, it is a par 71 layout in Frigate Bay with holes on both the Caribbean and the Atlantic, and water hazards on 10 of its 18 holes. St Kitts is less than an hour away by ferry (less by water taxi) or 10 minutes by plane. Two more courses are currently under construction on St Kitts.
