Saba / Special Interests / Sailing & Regattas
Saba is not a prime sailing destination although there are yacht moorings on the sheltered west coast of the island at Wells Bay and at the harbour in Fort Bay. Ground swells and strong winds make it vital to secure a safe anchorage, and sailors should note that the entire coastline is a protected area, the Saba National Marine Park, where strict regulations apply. Sailing regattas do take place occasionally. They are generally held over a weekend which starts in Simpson Bay in St Maarten. The yachts race to Saba, stay a night, then the next morning race again to St Eustatius – for more details contact the Saba Tourist Bureau.
