St Barthélemy / Special Interests / Family

By Jane Anderson

St Barths is traditionally known as a chi-chi island, but that doesn’t stop it being a great place to bring children, especially the very young for the beaches and teens for the watersports, cool shops, restaurants and music. Grand Cul de Sac Beach is suitable for families with small children because the water is extremely shallow. It is also home to Windwave Power, who can hire out watersports equipment. Another good option is horse-riding, which is available though St Barth Equitation.

Come out of season in the school summer holidays and you’ll find a different and cheaper St Barths to the see and be seen one of high season. The fact this is a French island offers children another dimension to the Caribbean.

There are a fabulous range of villas on the island, though of course, most are pricey, but if you want a family villa, every amenity will be there for you from nannies to private chef. Some hotels have villa accommodation so that families get the best of both worlds.
