St Kitts / Special Interests / Beach
St Kitts diverse Atlantic and Caribbean coastlines with its long stretch of white sandy beaches offers a reliable beach holiday experience. The best beaches in St Kitts are to be found on the Southeast peninsular, at Frigate Bay North (Atlantic side), Frigate Bay South, South Friar’s Bay (Caribbean side) Banana Bay (secluded Caribbean beach) and Cockleshell Bay (Caribbean) where hotels such as The Marriott St. Kitts Resort & Royal Beach Casino, Timothy Beach Resort and Frigate Bay Resort offer a range of beach activities and watersports of all types.
The grey - and black-sand beaches on the north coast attract fewer people, and will not always be safe for swimming, however, they offer fantastic sun-bathing because of their privacy and seclusion at beaches like Dieppe Bay.
Frigate Bay and Cockleshell Bay offer the best ‘wind’ conditions for active watersports such as water-skiing, windsurfing, body-surfing or the extreme sport of kite-boarding. The South Frigate Bay beach is home to Timothy Beach Resort, the only hotel on a Caribbean beach, and Mr X Water Sports, a fully equipped water sports operation offering windsurfing, sailing, sun fish, wind rider sail boat, snorkelling tours, kayaking tours, and scuba diving.
Cockleshell Bay is a long stretch of golden sand beach located next to Banana Bay at the tip of the Southeast Peninsula. It is a great beach for swimming and is fast becoming a popular spot for beach picnics on public holidays with plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas. It is also home to the ever popular Reggae Beach Bar, the St Kitts Sailing School and the renowned Spice Mill restaurant.
White House Bay, close to Cockleshell Bay and Banana Bay on the Southeast Peninsula ranks among the best for snorkelling with great reefs and shipwrecks close to the shore as well as being ideal for small boat anchorage.
Beach culture is a given in St Kitts with many of St Kitts beaches featuring a range of beach bars or beach restaurants, offering activities and entertainment. Along South Frigate Bay at The Strip, at Cockleshell Bay, and Turtle Beach, there are ample beach bars and top beach restaurants which offer a range of snacks and refreshments, including some of the best seafood dishes to be found on the island, served with exquisite rum cocktails.
