Conservation efforts on St Kitts are being led by the St Christopher National Trust (formerly the St Christopher Heritage Society), a voluntary organisation formed in 2009 by a National Trust Act passed by the island’s National Assembly to preserve and promote St Kitts’ natural, historical, cultural and ecological heritage.The organisation, also known as the St Kitts National Trust, intends to preserve and study more of the island’s key sites. This includes working towards the establishment of a 20th Century Sugar Museum on the site of St Kitts’ Sugar Factory, which is being scrapped, though a number of pieces of equipment and machinery are being saved and will be displayed in the planned new multi-media museum.
