There is currently one golf course on St Kitts, with two more under construction. A 6825-yard, par 72 course by European Golf Design and Ian Woosnam is due to open in late 2012 as part of the first phase of Kittitian Hill Resort, a residential and tourism development on the lower slopes of Mount Liamuiga in the north of the island. Meanwhile, a Tom Fazio-designed course being built as part of the 2,500-acre Christophe Harbour residential marina resort on the island’s south-east peninsula is due for completion in 2013 and will traverse hills 500 feet above sea level to give sweeping views of the resort and both the Caribbean and Atlantic.

Royal St Kitts Golf Club, Frigate Bay - Originally opened in 1976 with a design by Australia’s five-time Open Champion Peter Thomson, it was renovated between 2002 and 2004 by Canadian designer Thomas McBroom and is now an 18-hole, par 71 course playing 6851 yards off the championship gold tees. The Marriott Golf-managed course spans 125 acres of the south-east peninsula and has three holes alongside the Atlantic’s crashing waves and two holes on the Caribbean. The testing design also incorporates water hazards on 10 holes, 80 bunkers and numerous coconut palm trees. The pro shop offers rental clubs (with two sleeves of golf balls) and golf shoes. Green fees include golf buggy rental. Guests at the adjacent St Kitts Marriott Resort & The Royal Beach Casino enjoy preferential rates. The Royal Golf Academy offers instruction from beginners to expert golfers with private lessons, group clinics or golf schools of up to three days with PGA instructors.
