St Lucia / Special Interests / Family

By Jane Anderson

St Lucia is a popular island for families which offers many different sides. Down south, families can explore the majestic Pitons, the Botanical Gardens, take a trek or a mountain bike through the rainforest or a zipwire adventure, not to mention a stroll into a walk-in volcano. Up north the island is less hilly with more resorts and the historic Pigeon Point to explore.

Aside from the lovely beaches and watersports, there are many other sports such as horse riding and tennis as well as natural attractions such as the Grand Anse Turtle Watch.

The St Lucia Tourist Board has launched a summer ‘Go Bananas’ initiative with a discount booklet for restaurants, shops and tours, complimentary room upgrades for families and the chance to win a trip back.

There’s a good choice hotels and villas that are very suitable for families. Smugglers Cove Resort & Spa on the north west of St Lucia is a new four-star all-inclusive with Maco’s Kids Club which caters for new born babies to teenagers. The hotel also has several children’s pools and a 100m waterslide and dedicated play areas including a replica of the island’s Fort Rodney. There’s a kids ecological learning centre at The Jalousie Plantation, while Cotton Bay Village offers a ‘Bring the baby, not the baggage concept’ with everything from nappies to car seats at the resort so you don’t have to pack everything but the kitchen sink.
