St Martin/St Maarten / Special Interests / Beach

By Nigel Tisdall

St Martin/St Maarten is fringed with 36 beaches that are a major attraction for visitors. They are often busy and offer plenty of holiday activities. The most beautiful is arguably Long Bay, on the west coast, with Orient Beach, on the east, the most fun. The most unusual is Maho Beach, which is so close to the runway of Princess Juliana International Airport that standing – or swimming - beneath the planes as they take off and land has become a popular thrill.
