St Martin/St Maarten / Special Interests / Sports Fishing

By Nigel Tisdall

What's out there today? Mahi mahi, tuna, barracuda, swordfish, marlin, sailfish...

Boat trips to catch a big fish can be arranged through local marinas and charter companies. Keen anglers should visit the island in late May when the annual Billfish Tournament takes place in Marigot. The top prize can be as high as $50,000 to catch a record fish, but as a 809 pound (367 kilo) marlin was landed in 2010 that won't be easy.
