St Vincent and the Grenadines / Special Interests / Cruise Ship

By Sara Macefield

St Vincent and the Grenadines is idyllic sailing territory whether it is by yacht or small cruise ship. These islands are off the beaten track as far as mainstream cruising is concerned, due to the shallow waters surrounding them and because they cannot cater for high volumes of passengers. So this area is very much the preserve of smaller cruise ships and yachts which meander through the islands, enjoying the slow pace of traditional Caribbean life.

St Vincent is the only island that can cater for large ships from mass market lines such as P&O Cruises, Holland America Line and Princess Cruises and deluxe cruise company Azamara Club Cruises. Companies with smaller ships tend to call at the smaller islands in the Grenadine chain.

Ships we recommend are owned by the following companies:

Compagnie du Ponant - Gallic luxury and continental charm are the hallmarks of this upscale line’s fleet of five ships, including a three-masted yacht and three mega-yachts, which offer bilingual sailings in sumptuous surrounds.

Seabourn - An upmarket cruise line that prides itself on the high levels of intuitive and attentive service and an intimate ambience that is more reminiscent of a private club.

SeaDream Yacht Club - Its two mega-yachts are full of sophistication and style more reminiscent of an upmarket boutique hotel, with an emphasis on luxury, privacy and intimacy.

Silversea - Seriously upmarket and unashamedly opulent, this family-owned line’s six ships offer all-suite accommodation, first-rate service and exquisite cuisine.
