Trinidad has lost countless buildings to fire in the last century and the current National Trust Legislation for listing buildings for protection lags behind the rest of the Caribbean in strength and efficiency. Several of the state-owned “Magnificent Seven” on the Savannah perimeter have fallen into disrepair and the walls and roof of the upper level of the President’s House collapsed in early 2010. A recently formed action group, Citizens for Conservation, is bent on doing something about it. It has a Facebook page and a brief to promote the preservation of Trinidad and Tobago’s man-made and natural heritage.
