Trinidad / Special Interests / Events

By Stephen Thorpe

There are a large number of racing enthusiasts and the season normally runs from November-June with up to 16 sponsored races over the period. All levels of expertise are catered for, with handicap events for cruisers and dinghies. The Trinidad & Tobago Sailing Association also runs a sponsored Youth Sailing School.

Trinidad Carnival Regatta - Trinidad Carnival is the island’s biggest party and festivities spill off its shores and into the surrounding sea with this regatta which is held at the same time. The regatta village is based at the TTSA in Chaguaramas and this year, the event also included the big boats section of the Tobago Carnival Regatta. Not surprisingly, the atmosphere during the three days of races is lively with plenty of après sailing festivities
