St Martin/St Maarten / Cycling
You don't see a lot of cyclists on St Martin/St Maarten – the hot weather, potholed roads and traffic congestion are hardly encouraging to two-wheeled travel. There are, nevertheless, options for exploring the island by bike, including rental companies and a network of pistes VTT (mountain biking trails) that reach most parts. Further information on these is available from the Office du Tourisme de Saint-Martin in Marigot, t 590 590 87 57 21. It is best to go riding early in the morning – take lots of water and spare inner tubes as punctures are likely due to rocky roads and thorny bushes. In St Maarten, Tri-Sport in Simpson Bay (closed Sunday) offers bike rental and a three-hour guided tour north to Marigot. Bikes can be delivered to your hotel.
