St Vincent and the Grenadines / Real Estate

St. Vincent and the Grenadines is an archipelago of 32 islands and cays dotted in the Caribbean Sea Only nine islands are inhabited (St. Vincent, Young Island, Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, Union Island, Palm Island, Petit St. Vincent) but all are close together; the whole nation covers only 150 square miles of Sea.  SVG offers some of the most unspoiled islands in the Caribbean, untouched by mass tourism.

The main island of St.Vincent is well known for its verdant green landscape, vibrant Caribbean ambience and volcanic black sands.

Construction work is progressing apace on a new $178 million international airport for St Vincent which is also experiencing a boom in new property development.  The islands will see the facility open this year, and is expecting a knock-on increase in tourism and more interest in the country’s real estate market.

Developers with existing property projects have given the thumbs up to the new airport and said it could help the islands compete with some of the Caribbean’s bigger names.  Buccament Bay Beach Resort, a five star development on the West Coast of St Vincent a 15 minute drive from the current airport and the new project. Real estate on sale includes property in landscaped tropical gardens, from studios and suites to apartments and two-bedroom villas.

Occasionally, throughout the chain, entire islands come up for sale.

Mustique has attracted  the rich and famous for decades, and was once the playground of the late Princess Margaret as well as home to Mick Jagger, David Bowie and a host of socialites. Prices still reflect its celebrity status, and huge houses with tennis courts, gym, infinity pools and guest cottages occasionally come on the market for those who can afford them

Neighbouring  Bequia has some of Mustique’s glamour and large properties but is altogether more 'Caribbean' in flavour and less manicured in style. Villas in the exclusive Mount Pleasant area and beach front homes are on the market for up to US$5 million.

Mayreau is only accessible by boat and until recently remained mostly undeveloped. Now a small development of luxury homes known as Tribu Mayreau is underway, with prices from US$245,000

Canouan is just five square miles in size and formerly a community of sailors and fishermen, now home to The Villas at the Grenadines Estate, luxurious low-density properties within the 200-acre oasis that encompasses the Raffles Resort and the Trump International Golf Club.

Union island at the bottom of the chain is a magnet for sailors and divers drawn to the underwater attractions of The Tobago Cays. Clifton is the busier of the two main villages on Union due to the ferry wharf, the airport, and the very popular yacht anchorage. Yachting enthusiasts and visitors use Union Island as a base for exploring the Southern Grenadines. Property occasionally comes on the market here including plots of land and because it is not as developed as other islands, prices are reasonable by comparison
