The island is not a recognised yachting centre owing mainly to its rugged coastline and limited shelter and most sailboat traffic flits between Martinique and Guadeloupe skirting Dominica's west coast.

The Dominica Marine Center, Roseau - It has a 20x20 feet dock, moorings for 100 boats up to 40 feet with 17 feet depth, a full chandlery, information and charter operations; they also conduct whale and dolphin watching trips on widespan catamarans, full day offshore and half day inshore fishing charters.
Indian River Boat Trips - Start at the bridge just south of Portsmouth, an inland boat ride up the lower stretches of the river is a gentle diversion with a rustic bar the final goal after a mile. A running commentary on fauna and flora from the local boat owners is informative but avoid going if the cruise ship is in town.
