St Eustatius is an island best-suited to nature-lovers and people who appreciate peace and quiet. Blissfully undeveloped with little commercialism, it does not offer a lot of “things to do” beyond hiking and diving.

Day Sails/Boat Trips

St Eustatius has no marina – sailing trips are best arranged through companies based on St Martin/St Maarten or St Kitts. It may be possible to set up an individual boat trip through a dive operator such as Golden Rock, t 318 2964, or with a local fishing boat – enquire at the harbour or St Eustatius Tourist Office in Oranjestad Upper Town, t 318 2433 (closed weekends).

Island Tours

With just a few roads, finding your way around by rental car is pretty straightforward - although the steep hills and narrow potholed roads will not suit all drivers. Taxis meet flights and you will already have seen a fair part of the island simply by the time you have transferred to Oranjestad. An island tour by taxi costs from $20 per person. Walking tours of Oranjestad can be arranged through the St Eustatius Historical Foundation – they are run by volunteers and are highly recommended, enquire at Simon Doncker House, Oranjestad Upper Town, t 318 2288 (closed Saturday and Sunday afternoon), or at the St Eustatius Tourist Office in Fort Oranje, Oranjestad Upper Town, t 318 2433 (closed weekends).
