Tobago / Day Sails/Boat Trips

By James Henderson

A day out on a sailing boat can be the highlight of a trip to Tobago. There are many options from Pigeon Point, to snorkel and visit the famed Nylon Pool, but there are also some more adventurous sailing trips that cruise along the coast of the island in all its forested beauty. Snorkelling in secluded coves, and dolphin spotting are highlights of a trip along the coast, which can be done by powerboat or under sail.

Day sail cruises include:

Coco Motion - Popular snorkelling cruises aboard a 31ft powerboat, for dolphin spotting and the now famous carrot cake – no trip is complete without a slice. There is limited shade, so sunblock a must. Also there are no on board ‘facilities’.

Island Girl - Skippered by owner Captain Scott Clarke, the 43ft catamaran takes a maximum of 26 guests out for the day and serves up a grilled lunch prepared onboard. Also available for private charters, for sunset cruises, round-island sails or customised trips

Splash Sports - Offers full day or sunset cruises on Maestro del Mar, a fully powered 50ft catamaran. Available for private charters, including weddings.

Island Tours

For those who would prefer to explore the island in the company of others and with a qualified guide, then there are guided tours available, including specialist tours for birdwatching and hiking.

Tours and excursions are available through:

Yes Tourism - Local incoming tour (THTA & T&TITOA) operator offering sightseeing and special interest tours by air-conditioned minibus. These might include a Rainforest Tour to the Gilpin Trace in the Forest Reserve; a glass-bottom boat trip to Little Tobago, home to many different species of migratory and marine birds (includes snorkelling on Angel Reef); an island tour covering local villages and places of interest; a true off-road trip, in which you will see some of the island’s extraordinary scenery close up. Also excursions to Trinidad and the Grenadines, plus a Tobago Cocoa Estate & Argyle Waterfall tour.

You may also be interested in seeing separate sections on Birdwatching and Hiking.
