In Depth
Golden Caribbean is a specialist Caribbean tour operator with the ability to sell flight only tickets on the weekly Monarch Airlines service from the UK into Grenada and Tobago. The company handles all the ticket sales for the service, making it ideal for independent travellers who can create a flexible itinerary with a package, or (if they have accommodation arranged already) just buy flight tickets on their own. Golden Caribbean offers some of the best cheap flights to the Caribbean.
The Monarch flight operates each Wednesday on a ‘triangular’ routing that touches both Grenada and Tobago. Flights depart from Gatwick South in the mid-morning and arrive in the Caribbean in the mid afternoon, returning across the Atlantic overnight. They fly an Airbus A330 which is configured in two classes, Premium Economy and Economy. Premium Economy seats have a 34 inch pitch, an individual seatback screen, an upgraded meal service and a complimentary bar.
Based near Gatwick, Golden Caribbean is part of the Golden Holiday Company, which was founded as a specialist tour operator selling holidays into the USA in the 1980s. Golden Caribbean itself, which offers packaged holidays to several islands in the Caribbean, was created in 2002. Their handling of the Monarch flight into Tobago and Grenada began in December 2008 after the summer 2008 failure of XL Leisure Group (for whom they had also handled other Caribbean routings). Currently Golden Caribbean partners with Virgin Atlantic into its other Caribbean destinations.
