If you are looking for an independent, self-catering holiday but a villa seems too big or extravagant for your needs, then a cottage, apartment or condominium might be the ideal choice. They have many of the advantages of villas and villas resorts and usually come at a much lower price.

They bring the privacy and independence of your own home, but with a sense of community. There are often some central facilities, a pool or an area of beach, where you can meet other guests. They are popular with families. There is often a contained area in which they can run around.

As the names suggest, cottages, apartments and condominiums come in a variety of styles and layouts. They may be set around a garden or in a single block. They may be privately owned and decorated, but equally they may be in the grounds of a hotel. There is very likely to be some maid service. The key, though, is that they are all self-catering accommodation, so you can look after yourself and take life at your own pace, at a good price.
