Instead of staying in a resort hotel, perhaps you would prefer a simpler and less expensive option. Or somewhere convenient to stay in a town or near an airport. The Caribbean has plenty of clean and pleasant guest houses, often with a good deal of local charm. They are an ideal base from which to explore and often provide a good link into island life.
Most Caribbean guest houses are not listed by travel organisers and it is therefore hard to find out about them, but Definitive Caribbean lists guest houses dotted around the Caribbean, from small stopovers in towns to tiny hideaways in the coves of the islands in the Eastern Caribbean.
