Villa resorts stand mid-way between a villa and a hotel and offer a perfect compromise if you would like to cater for yourself yet enjoy the advantages and social atmosphere of a hotel. You get seclusion in your own space, often with a private pool, but you are still within the grounds of a resort, with all its sports, activities, bars and dining rooms.

Villa resorts vary in style. Some are a collection of privately owned properties on an island or estate that share management. Others are purpose built, often constructed to a common plan - almost like a hotel in which the ‘rooms’ are villas scattered around the grounds. These are then usually sold to individuals, who decorate them independently, according to their own taste. Of course, still more villa resorts have a hotel component with rooms in blocks as well as the villas.
