As the financial and business capital of the English speaking Caribbean, Trinidad is not renowned as a tourist destination outside of its celebrated Carnival season but the range of accommodation and variety of hotels have increased immeasurably in recent years.

The intrinsic quality of the room stock especially in and around the capital Port Of Spain has also improved and the spectacular redevelopment of the waterfront focussed on the Hyatt hotel and extending to the cruise ship complex has given a 21st century veneer to a rapidly changing urban scene and cityscape. While business travel and conference tourism have driven the upper end of the market there has been a welcome marked addition in the middle range of stylish boutique style properties and a number of upgraded and inexpensive guesthouses serving an expanding weekenders’ market in the suburbs of Woodbrook, Newtown-St.Clair, and St. Ann’s-Cascade.

Beyond the capital, the industrialised second city of San Fernando in the south has far fewer establishments of note, but in remoter coastal rural areas of the north and the Arima valley there are several well established outposts sympathetic to the country’s burgeoning awareness of its unique fauna and birdlife.
